Lex knew that he'd have plenty of time to freak out about (and explore) his new body when he got home after work and it had been quite the shock when he blacked out in the hospital boiler room and "came to" in the doctor's mess making out with the heart surgeon but right now there was work to do; The flood of injuries quickly overwhelming the ER made it clear the body swapping was widespread and the hospital would be a more vital resource than ever.
So Lex threw on a worn pair of work overalls and began repairing damage to the furnace. The person in his body somehow damaged it when they fled in apparent panic.
