I found an incredible diary while remodeling my basement 15 years ago. It included detailed instructions for building a time machine! The strange thing is that the woman clearly wrote the diary decades ago but the parts described wouldn't have been available then. In fact, some of electrical components were only invented in the decade and a half since I found the diary.

Of course I followed the instructions in the diary and tried constructing the machine myself. As I did I realized they were written like they were done from memory. I wondered if I was somehow related to the author - their writing felt very familiar. I also wasn't sure how the machine could possibly succeed. I knew enough theory to be suspicous of the level of power required to fuel the machine. (It was far too low.) But with the machine finally complete, I prepared myself for disappointment and flipped the switch to activate it.

Suddenly several things made much more sense. The machine didn't require that much power because it didn't send the operator through time - just their consciousness. I suddenly found myself in a different body and many years in the past. The components to build another machine are beyond my reach so there isn't much more I can do except start a diary and teach my future self the secrets of time travel.
