Transport Error

Caption thumbnail

Long distance, instantaneous teleportation has been available for several years now. It isn't a truly long distance process (a network of stations work in tandem to leap-frog people longer distances) nor is it strictly instantaneous (because of the requisite redundancies for safety.) And it's still mostly a luxury for the rich because of the limited number of objects the network can support at once.

Brian splurged and bought a week of vacation in New Zealand and because he didn't want to spend 2 days traveling to and from the island nation, he decided to splurge again and bought a 20 minute transport from one of the cheaper startups on the network.

He may regret not choosing a company with stricter safeties (or not choosing air travel) when he awakens inside the crater of Rangitoto, a dozen miles off target, and in the body of a Kiwi woman headed out of the country at the time to see if she could be fitted with new prosthetics.
